Add Georgia receiver A.J. Green's name to the list of suspended SEC players this opening week.
Georgia issued a release Saturday morning saying Green would miss the Louisiana-Lafayette game "pursuant to UGA Athletic Association policy and pending a ruling from the NCAA clarifying his status."
In other words, Green won't play until the NCAA and Georgia are satisfied there are no improprieties involving the star receiver. Green is easily one of the most dynamic players in the SEC, not to mention the entire country.
Even so, Georgia is not going to take any chances on playing him until the NCAA makes a ruling on the matter.
Why?
Well, if the Bulldogs played Green and it was determined later that he was ineligible, then they would be subject to forfeiting any games in which he played.
Georgia has not provided any details about what is being investigated in Green's case. There are several investigations around the country centered on allegations of impermissible conduct with agents.
The Bulldogs now have four players suspended for the opener.
Running back Washaun Ealey, receiver Tavarres King and safety Alec Ogletree were all suspended by Georgia coach Mark Richt because of arrests.
At the receiver position, with both Green and King out, that means Kris Durham, Marlon Brown, Logan Gray and Rantavious Wooten will make up the heart of the Bulldogs' receiver rotation Saturday.
