West Virginia slow out of the gate

This was not exactly the emphatic opening statement West Virginia fans were hoping to see from their team.

The Mountaineers lead Coastal Carolina just 10-0 at the half. Geno Smith has been good, completing 12 of 16 passes for 112 yards and the lone touchdown, though he does have an interception. But Noel Devine is averaging just 2.7 yards per carry on 16 attempts. That's ludicrous against an FCS opponent.

The defense has been as good as advertised, allowing the Chanticleers just 65 yards in the half. This is reminiscent of Rutgers' opening game. Look for the Mountaineers to blow this open in the second half, but they definitely have some adjustments to make.
