1. Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore did just about everything you could ask last night in a scruffy 49-20 defeat of Louisiana Tech. In a 47-degree drizzle, Moore (20-of-28, 298 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, a touchdown catch, a tackle and a great pooch punt) continued to do what he does best. Not only did Moore coolly make the right decision on play after play, he threw passes with GPS precision. He’s simply a joy to watch.

2. Iowa’s 31-30 loss to Wisconsin on Saturday is a painful reminder of the unusual number of close losses the Hawkeyes suffered from 2005-2008, when they went 2-10 in games decided by four points or fewer. Iowa did a 180 last season, going 4-1 in games decided by that margin. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz pointed Tuesday at little things like turnovers and third-down conversions. Iowa was plus-one in turnovers, 11-of-16 on third down. I’m going to go out on a limb and say it was the Hawkeyes’ missed extra point.

3. Derek Dooley has every right to compare his Tennessee team to the German Army. The critics who tsk-tsked comparing football to war didn’t read what he said. Dooley compared his team’s lack of leadership to the Germans’ lack of leadership on D-Day. If we rule out any non-combat use of the events of war, we’re in trouble. What’s next? No more Medal of Honor on the PS3? The only way you’ll get my Risk board game is to pry it from my cold, dead hands.
