Perfect start for Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska couldn't have started any better.

The Blackshirts hassled Blaine Gabbert on all three plays of Missouri's opening three-and-out, allowing no yardage and hitting Gabbert twice, more than Oklahoma did for the entire game last week.

On the first play from scrimmage for the Huskers, Missouri got burned by the zone read like so many of Nebraska's opponents this year.

Quarterback Taylor Martinez let Roy Helu keep it, and there's no doubt it was the right read. Helu raced untouched 66 yards for a 7-0 lead, sending the Memorial Stadium crowd into a frenzy, unleashing their red balloons earlier than anyone expected, just over a minute into the game.

Missouri's defense has given up just over 13 points a game this year, but Nebraska punched a huge hole in the Tigers' rush defense early. The Tigers will need a big response -- or at least a few first downs -- to offset the momentum from the Huskers' huge start.
