LINCOLN, Neb. -- Missouri banged on the door three times, but the Blackshirts wouldn't let them in.
Missouri ran three times at the 1-yard line, but all three times, the Nebraska defense protected the goal line, and a fourth-down false start forced the Tigers to settle for a field goal.
The Tigers trail 31-17.
It's not very often that giving up three points gives a team momentum, but this might have been one of those occasions. Bo Pelini was fist-pumping on the sideline. Jared Crick unleashed a big scream after the stop on third down, and the crowd got behind the team after a disputed fumble allowed Missouri to keep the ball at the 1-yard line.
Outside of Helu's long run in the quarter and a still-stifling pass defense, Nebraska has largely been sleepwalking through the game after its crazy-good start.
Thanks to the crucial goal-line stand, every one of the 85,907 in attendance is wide awake.
