What did we learn this week?

Stanford is ready for prime time: The Cardinal turned in its best performance of the year on a big stage, trouncing Arizona 42-17. The Cardinal deserve to be in the discussion of "best one-loss team" and figure to be candidates for an at-large BCS bowl berth if they can win out.

Oregon State isn't going to the Rose Bowl: The Beavers entered the weekend controlling their own Rose Bowl destiny. After being upset at UCLA, they no longer do. The loss to the Bruins also brings into question where the Beavers will end up in the conference pecking order.

Oregon can win big with its B-game: The Ducks sputtered early against Washington, but won 53-16 after outscoring Washington 35-10 in the second half. It might have been the Ducks' worst performance of the season. They won by 37 points and gained 522 yards. Yes, even when struggling, the Ducks roll.

USC and UCLA have pride: The LA schools both showed heart this weekend. After some questioned how USC would bounce back from its emotional loss to No. 1 Oregon, the Trojans outlasted Arizona State 34-33. Meanwhile, UCLA was riding a three-game losing streak into its matchup with surging Oregon State, but the Bruins got a last-second field goal to prevail. Both answered questions on whether they would fight through adversity.

The bowl picture is murky: Oregon is No. 1. Stanford is No. 2. Washington State is 10th. It's hard to figure how the rest will all play out in the muddled middle. California, UCLA, Arizona State, Washington and Oregon State each are confounding. Arizona has plenty of work ahead (USC, at Oregon, Arizona State). USC will have a significant say in who gets bowl eligible. Does the Pac-10 get two BCS bowl berths? And can it get six teams bowl eligible? Tune in next week!
