Cincinnati beats Rutgers in crazy shootout

Well, there's one I never saw coming. If you did, please tell me my fortune.

Cincinnati beat Rutgers 69-38 in the highest-scoring game in Big East history. You read that correctly.

I thought Rutgers' defense would slow down a Bearcats offense that had mustered just 17 points total its previous two games. Nope. Instead, Cincinnati rolled up more than 650 total yards and turned this into a video game.

Isaiah Pead was just flat out ridiculous, scoring five touchdowns and rushing for 213 yards. Zach Collaros threw for 366 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another. What a breakout performance for a Cincinnati team that had suffered through a three-game losing streak. The Bearcats remain alive for a bowl game but still have to win their last two.

The offensive explosion masked another terrible defensive effort for the Bearcats. Rutgers should never score 38 on anybody. But receiver Mark Harrison had an unreal game, too, catching 10 passes for 240 yards and four touchdowns. Chas Dodd threw all those scores and had 335 yards passing.

But the Scarlet Knights can't feel good about this performance. They're a wreck right now, having lost four straight. They have to beat Louisville and win at West Virginia just to get to 6-6, and I don't think they can do it.

What a weird way to end the night in the Big East.
