  • Big Ten athletic directors are discussing the possibility of adding a ninth conference game, but it could present even more problems for an already flawed football schedule, Tom Mulhern writes in the Wisconsin State Journal.

"Playing nine games in an 11-team league does not work out mathematically, which is the first thing I mentioned to [Wisconsin athletic director Barry] Alvarez. In case you were wondering, the ADs are aware of this.
'One team would play eight [conference games],' Alvarez said. 'We talked about how you would decide the one team that would play eight. It would still have to be two-year [schedule] cycles. There's a lot you'd have to work out. That wouldn't be immediate. It's something that's on the table to talk about.'"
