MARYLAND TERRAPINS
The class
Recruits: 20
Top prospects: Three-star receiver Marcus Leak is the No. 44 receiver in the country, three-star linebacker Cole Farrand is ranked No. 25 at his position, and receiver Nigel King is the No. 49 receiver in the country. All three received the highest grades in the class from ESPN Recruiting.
Needs met: The Terps needed a kicker/punter after the departure of four-year starter Travis Baltz, and signed one, and they also needed some help at wide receiver after the early departure of Torrey Smith to the NFL. Maryland signed three receivers, and added some depth at running back with the addition of Brandon Ross. The secondary was also a priority, and Maryland added four defensive backs.
Analysis: It was a solid class for first-year coach Randy Edsall, but nothing flashy. Maryland loaded up on offensive tackles, and finished with a good mix of skill players. It’s an unheralded class with three two-star recruits and three unranked players who we’ll find out more about once they see some playing time.
ESPN recruiting grade: C+
