Texas A&M made its intention clear on Wednesday. It plans to leave the Big 12, presumably for the SEC.

But even as those rumors and whispers turned to hard news, the focus is still the same on the field for the Aggies.

"I don’t really know too much about it," running back Cyrus Gray told ESPN.com on Wednesday, just hours after the university made its big announcement. "I hear stuff here and there, and I know as a team and as players, we’re not really concerned about that. I think our main goal and main concern right now is SMU."

Gray says he didn't know much about it for one reason. He hasn't been following it.

"Not at all. Not close at all. I don’t think it’s that important right now," Gray said. "I’m a senior. I’ve got one more year here and I’m trying to make it count and play with the parts we have here."

That's not hard when the team's real leader, coach Mike Sherman, isn't talking about it and makes sure, as he's said several times this preseason, the only three letters on his team's mind are "S-M-U."

"He’s so motivating and always just worrying about the next opponent. SMU has been his main concern since Day 1. He doesn’t talk about anything else, we just talk about winning and what we’re going to do to prepare for these guys. That’s been the most important thing right now on campus," Gray said. "Our main thing is SMU, and that’s the main thing everybody’s riled up about around here."
