Here's our weekly look at the Big 12's top hopes for the Heisman.
1. Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma
Last week: 35-47, 375 yards, touchdown in a 47-14 win over Tulsa.
Making the case for Jones: Jones was the league's frontrunner entering the season and somewhat of a co-favorite with Stanford's Andrew Luck. He did nothing to change that perception in a quality outing to kick off the season against the Golden Hurricane.
2. Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
Last week: 21-27, 359 yards, 5 touchdowns, 38 rushing yards, 1 reception for 15 yards in a 50-48 win over No. 14 TCU.
Making the case for Griffin: Griffin thrust himself into the Heisman conversation with a virtuoso performance against TCU on Friday night, and in the process, hurdled the biggest obstacle about playing at Baylor: name recognition. Griffin made the media rounds this week, and made a guest appearance at "College GameDay" on Saturday morning. For him, that's huge. The next toughest part will be winning big, but Baylor is in position to start the season 5-0.
3. Cyrus Gray, RB, Texas A&M
Last week: 21 carries, 132 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 reception for 4 yards in a 46-14 win over SMU.
Making the case for Gray: Gray had a solid outing in his return from last season's huge finish. He showed off his elusiveness and helped the Aggies win convincingly, extending his streak of 100-yard rushing games to eight in the process.
4. Brandon Weeden, QB, Oklahoma State
Last week: 24-39, 388 yards, 3 touchdowns, 3 interceptions in a 61-34 win over Louisiana-Lafayette.
Making the case for Weeden: Weeden made a few big mistakes, including one for a pick six, and got off to a rough start early in Saturday's blowout. But his numbers will be there and Oklahoma State is in the top 10. His buzz would get a boost with a big win in Thursday's nationally-televised matchup with Arizona.
5. Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M
Last week: 21-26, 246 yards, 2 touchdowns in a 46-14 win over SMU.
Making the case for Tannehill: Missouri's James Franklin was a dark, dark horse, but Tannehill played himself into the conversation with a fantastic night against SMU. His accuracy was on point all night, his decision-making was solid and he had the Aggies' offense rolling from start to finish.
Finally, here's what my ballot looked like in ESPN's weekly Heisman Watch:
1. Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
2. Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma
3. Kellen Moore, QB, Boise State
4. Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
5. Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
