GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Maybe Florida's new offense is a little better than last year's.
The Gators are off to a fast start today, scoring on their first two drives of the game, and lead Tennessee 10-0 after the first quarter. Florida marched down the field on its opening drive going 80 yards on nine plays. The drive ended with a nice play-action pass from John Brantley to Trey Burton for a the 1-yard score.
Florida's field goal drive went 68 yards in 12 plays.
The Gators haven't been very flashy with the play calling. Florida has only called a few different plays, but Florida's speed appears to be too much for Tennessee right now. Running backs Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey have combined for six carries for 41 yards and Demps had a 28-yard run down to the 1-yard-line on the first drive.
Rainey has been ankle tackles away from breaking a couple long runs. Burton has also been a big weapon so far. He has three catches for 26 yards so far.
Brantley has looked down field a couple times in this ball game and is 8-of-12 for 105 yards and one touchdown after the first quarter. The Gators proving they don't need to be creative on offense to be efficient.
