Miami handed USF a heartbreaking 6-3 loss, after Jake Wieclaw made a 36-yard field goal with no time left.

Neither team had much going on offensively, as the teams combined for 17 punts. The longest play from scrimmage all day was a 25-yard reception by LaRon Byrd. USF was hurt by the loss of starting quarterback B.J. Daniels, who left the game in the third quarter with a sprained shoulder.

A similar situation unfolded last season, when Daniels got hurt against Miami. Bobby Eveld came on in relief and led the Bulls to the 23-20 upset win in overtime. But Eveld did not have the same late-game heroics in this one. His receivers dropped passes, he often threw short on third down -- and USF converted just two of its third-down attempts. USF only had 249 yards of total offense.

The Bulls played well on defense and special teams -- taking down Jacory Harris six times and blocking a 41-yard field goal attempt. But in what has become a pattern, USF allowed a late game-winning drive for the third time in four games. It happened previously against Cincinnati and Rutgers.

USF has now lost its last three games by three points each.

Harris was able to lead Miami 61 yards in 15 plays, including one huge quarterback scramble to help get Miami out of a jam. USF (5-5) was hoping to beat its in-state rival for a second straight season but is now in a fight for bowl eligibility with two games remaining against Louisville and West Virginia.

If Daniels is out for either or both of those games, the fight will be much more difficult.
