It is possible for Maryland to beat the likes of Florida, Auburn and Ohio State for some of the nation's best recruits.

The Terps just have to do it with a little more regularity.

When ESPNU 150 athlete Stefon Diggs signed with Maryland on Friday, Randy Edsall's coaching staff inked the No. 13 player in the country. Even more importantly, they got the top player in the state of Maryland. Keeping the best talent at home has been a struggle for Maryland, so to lure in Diggs after a 2-10 season made it even more impressive. This was one of Maryland's most highly-touted recruits in years, and a huge boost for a program desperately in need of a lift this offseason. Of the 25 players in Maryland's 2012 recruiting class, 12 were from the Washington D.C./Maryland region, and three of them were four-star recruits.

“This shows our commitment and effort to keep the best local players at home,” Edsall said in a prepared statement. “We got the No. 1 player in the state of Maryland [Diggs] and the Gatorade Player of the Year in Washington, D.C. [Albert Reid of Friendship Collegiate Academy]. Hopefully the top players in the area will follow their lead in the future.”

It's about time Maryland made some headlines for players wanting to join the program instead of leave it.
