Latest from FSU president
No. 6 is the key:
6. It will cost between $20M and $25M to leave the ACC -- we have no idea where that money would come from. It would have to come from the Boosters, which currently are unable to support our current University athletic budget, hence the 2% cut in that budget.
Money is at the heart of this entire conversation. It's what FSU fans are reportedly clamoring for, because their athletic department is struggling financially. If Florida State is so desperate for more cash, then, how on earth is it going to afford the ACC's $20 million exit fee?
"We have no idea where that money would come from," Barron wrote.
The conversation should stop right there.
Read that memo, and read it thoroughly, because Barron makes some very good points and helps clarify some misinformation that's been out there. Florida State is wise to explore its options -- every school and conference should. Based on what Barron wrote, though, it looks like FSU's options are limited.
