3-point stance: Grow up, Buckeye fans

1. Logan Tuley-Tillman committed to Michigan and then posted a picture of himself burning a recruiting letter from Ohio State. The offensive lineman from Peoria, Ill., said he didn’t think the photo would get the attention it has gotten. That’s understandable. Tuley-Tillman is a high school junior. High schoolers don’t realize how big the world is. Let’s hope that the Buckeye fans who have sent him death threats and other responses that cross the line are in high school -- or middle school. Otherwise, they have no excuse.

2. I don’t mind that men are coaching women’s basketball teams. I don’t mind that Alcorn State, a historically black FCS institution in Mississippi, hired a white coach, former Memphis assistant Jay Hopson. If the doors are open, then they should open in both directions. But the boy on Long Island who appealed successfully to play high school field hockey? I’m still wrapping my mind around that one.

3. South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier and LSU coach Les Miles have both endorsed some form of the idea that SEC divisional champions should be decided only by division play, not the entire eight-game SEC schedule. Let’s be honest. The minute that any SEC game doesn’t count toward Atlanta, we all know that opponent will be dumped for a game against Western Carolina. Or Jacksonville State. Or South Alabama. Or Central Arkansas. Make that “for another game” -- all four of those teams already appear on SEC schedules in 2012.
