1. The more discussion there is among the conferences, the less difference there is in their position regarding the postseason. The SEC and the Big 12 came out for the four best teams. The Big Ten initially said it wanted conference champions only but commissioner Jim Delany said Monday that the league could live with the four best teams. The Pac-12 took no formal position in its spring meetings but wants conference champions only. I guess we’ll find out how strongly the Pac-12 feels about it.

2. Here’s 108 years of college football in three degrees of separation: Bill Curry of Georgia State, while at Georgia Tech, coached three years (1980-82) against Bear Bryant of Alabama, who, while at Kentucky, coached seven seasons (1946-52) against Gen. Robert Neyland of Tennessee, who coached nine seasons (1926-34) against Dan McGugin of Vanderbilt, who took over the Commodores in 1904. When you win the bar bet, toast me.

3. College Football Live polled ESPNers who cover the sport to choose the five best individual seasons of the last 50 years. The results, unveiled daily this week, began Monday with No. 5 Tim Tebow of Florida in 2007. My top five: No. 5: Sam Bradford, Oklahoma, 2008; No. 4, Herschel Walker, Georgia, 1980; No. 3, Vince Young, Texas, 2005; No. 2, Cam Newton, Auburn, 2010; No. 1., Barry Sanders, Oklahoma State, 1988. Walker and Young didn’t win the Heisman in those years, but their teams finished No. 1.
