CHICAGO -- The Nittany Lions are coming after all.
A day after announcing only head coach Bill O'Brien would attend Big Ten preseason media sessions, Penn State confirmed Thursday that three players will also participate Thursday and Friday. The only change to the original list is senior linebacker Michael Mauti will replace junior running back Silas Redd, the subject of transfer rumors. Mauti is among a group of Penn State players who pledged their loyalty to the program Wednesday. USC is making a major push for Redd, a second-team All-Big Ten running back in 2011. He's expected to decide his future plans in the next few days.
While some folks, even media members, felt Penn State didn't need to bring players, it's good to see the Lions will have a presence at this event. Mauti attended media days last year and is more than capable of speaking about the program and its future. It's understandable why Redd won't attend.
