BYU’s win over No. 3 Oklahoma vaulted the Cougars 11 spots to come in at No. 9 in the Associated Press Poll, which was released Tuesday.
The Cougars were ranked No. 9 for two weeks last season and ascended as high as No. 8.
BYU leapfrogged Boise State, which was No. 12 in the poll after defeated Oregon. Oregon fell out of the Top 25. TCU, which had a bye the first week and travels to Virginia this week, was No. 16 and Utah, which defeated Utah State last week, was No. 17.
The Mountain West continues to have strong footing in the poll with more teams in the Top 25 than the Big East, Pac-10 or Big Ten. Air Force and Colorado State also are receiving votes.
Conference USA has four teams receiving votes with East Carolina receiving six, and Southern Miss, Houston, and Tulsa each receiving one.
