Despite suspending Caleb TerBush for Purdue's season opener, Boilers coach Danny Hope hasn't lost faith in the senior quarterback.

Hope announced Monday night on his radio show that TerBush will start at quarterback this week when Purdue visits Notre Dame. TerBush was suspended for Saturday's game against Eastern Kentucky for an undisclosed violation of team rules. Senior Robert Marve started the opener and performed well, completing 30 of 38 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.

Although TerBush and Marve as listed as co-starters on the depth chart for Notre Dame, Hope is going with TerBush, who started all 13 games last season and retained the top job during spring practice and fall camp.

TerBush, speaking with local reporters Monday, didn't specify the rule he broke, although he indicated it wasn't a legal issue.
"You can't let it happen," he said. "I slipped. I made a mistake but it's part of life. You have to learn from your mistakes and move on. Talked to the team and I'm ready to move on and get ready for Notre Dame."

Hope said on his show that TerBush, Marve and No. 3 quarterback Rob Henry all will play against the Irish. Marve started Purdue's last game at Notre Dame in 2010, his first as a Boilermaker.

Judging by the reactions of some Purdue fans on Twitter, Hope's decision to stick with TerBush over Marve isn't going over too well. Marve certainly looked good Saturday and has the most natural ability of any Boilers quarterback, but he didn't beat out TerBush on the practice field, and TerBush has been Hope's No. 1 guy for some time now. Then again, TerBush is a senior and a captain who represented the team at the Big Ten kickoff luncheon. His misstep is disappointing, and it wouldn't have been surprising had Marve replaced him in the lineup.

It'll be interesting to see how the rotation plays out if TerBush struggles early against the Irish.
