Fresno State running back Ryan Mathews had a career high 234 yards and three touchdowns in a 51-34 loss to Boise State on Friday.
All three of Mathews’ touchdowns came on rushes of 60 or more yards. According to ESPN’s Stats & Information, last season only 12 players had at least three 60-yard or longer rushes the entire season, and only four players had more than three. Cal running back Jahvid Best led the country with seven in 2008.
Ninety-six players had at least one 60-yard or longer rush in 2008, and Mathews was not one of them. His longest run was 49 yards. He did have one 60-yard rush in 2007.
