Troy Athletic Director Steve Dennis issued a statement Wednesday in response to its game against LSU being cancelled because of damage to Tiger Stadium caused by Hurricane Gustav. Although Troy could have been upset by the situation or even asked for the game to be moved, Dennis added some perspective to the situation.
"This is a football game, nothing more, and the people of Baton Rouge have more to worry about right now than a football game," Dennis said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Baton Rouge and LSU and we wish them nothing but the best as they work to overcome the effects of this storm."
Troy will continue practicing this week in preparation for its home opener against Alcorn State on Sept. 13. Troy is the second non-BCS team to have its game cancelled because of Hurricane Gustav. New Mexico State had its Thursday game cancelled against Nicholls State. The Aggies have not yet played a game this season because of a first-week bye and will open the season at Nebraska on Sept. 13.
