South Carolina's 2013 season opener against North Carolina is headed for Thursday night.
South Carolina announced on Monday that the game, which will be played in Columbia, S.C., will take place on Aug. 29 and will be televised on ESPN. The game time will be announced at a later date.
This will mark the second straight year the Gamecocks will open the season on Thursday night. It will also be the 11th time under head coach Steve Spurrier that South Carolina has played on Thursday night. Spurrier is 8-2 in those games, and has won four straight (the last loss came at Vanderbilt on Sept. 4, 2008).
This will also be the 56th meeting between these two programs and the first time these two have met since 2007. North Carolina holds a 34-17-4 lead in the series, but South Carolina has won four of the past five contests, dating back to 1988.
