The season’s first BCS standings are officially released on Sunday, but ESPN’s Brad Edwards has done the math and thinks Boise State will rank No. 5 when the standings are released.
Edwards came up with Boise State’s standing by taking the Broncos ranking in the coaches poll, the Harris poll and five of the six computer rankings that have been released.
However, Edwards isn’t completely confident Boise State will stay at No. 5 by year’s end despite an undefeated season mostly because of its schedule.
Stated Edwards: “The Trojans would be slightly behind Boise State right now, but because of the difference between those teams in schedule strength the rest of the way, USC should have little concern about an 11-1 final record being enough to jump the Broncos.”
TCU and BYU also should figure into the standings as should Houston, which appears in both the coaches and Harris polls. However, Utah could be a bit of a wild card considering it’s not ranked in either the coaches or Harris poll.
