By Graham Watson

Former Central Michigan quarterback Dan LeFevour has been named the Detroit Athletic Club's Michigan Male College Athlete of the Year.

He will be honored at a banquet at the Detroit Athletic Club on May 10.

The Michigan College Athlete of the Year award is presented to a college student-athlete who excels academically and athletically, exhibits leadership in the community and on campus and promotes ethical and sportsmanlike behavior.

LeFevour is the only player in NCAA history to pass for at least 12,000 yards and rush for at least 2,500 yards in a career, LeFevour ranks second in Bowl Subdivision history in career yards of total offense with 15,853 (12,905 passing, 2,948 rushing) and he accounted for 150 total career touchdown, the most of any player in FBS history.

He led the Chippewas to three Mid-American Conference titles, four bowl games and two bowl victories. He was twice named the MAC Offensive Player of the Year and last year he received the MAC's Vern Smith Leadership Award.

Off the field, LeFevour was a four-time Academic All-MAC selection and two-time CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV second team honoree. He was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, in 2008, and was named a Lowe's Senior CLASS Award All-American in 2009.

ESPN Insider Mel Kiper Jr. has LeFevour listed as the fourth-best quarterback in the NFL Draft on Thursday. He currently has him going in the third round to the Carolina Panthers.
