Pick of the Irish: Week 3
By Brian Bennett
Notre Dame 28, Michigan State 27: This is truly a toss-up game, and my instincts tell me to go with the Spartans. They're at home under the lights with a veteran quarterback and a solid defense, while Notre Dame is coming off a tough loss.
But I predicted this summer that the Irish would be 2-1 after their first three-game stretch, and after losing last week to Michigan, they have to win this game for my pick to come true. One thing in Notre Dame's favor is it has played much better competition so far than the Spartans; the Irish opened with Purdue and the Wolverines, while Michigan State whipped up on Western Michigan and Florida Atlantic.
Both teams should be able to move the ball as long as Dayne Crist stays in the game, and it's likely going to come down to the wire yet again. This week, it breaks in favor of the Irish.
Last week: 0-1
