Illinois sophomore defensive tackle Josh Brent has been indefinitely suspended from the team after his arrest early Saturday for driving under the influence.
Brent appeared in 10 games last season and finished second on the team with 8.5 tackles for loss. He's scheduled to appear in court Monday after posting bond Saturday afternoon.
"We are aware of the situation regarding Josh Brent's arrest over the weekend," head coach Ron Zook said in a statement. "He has been suspended from the team indefinitely until we are able to gather all the facts. It's in the hands of the authorities right now, and we will continue to monitor the information."
A projected starter in 2009, Brent missed the first two games last fall because of an unspecified illness.
Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz told The (Champaign) News-Gazette that Brent was driving on a suspended license, which would make the DUI a felony. Not good news for an Illinois defense trying to rebuild its line after losing three starters.
