Todd Graham adds to Pittsburgh staff

By Brian Bennett

New Pittsburgh coach Todd Graham announced three more additions to his first staff, bringing the total number of coaches to eight with just one more full-time spot available.

The new additions are Todd Dodge as quarterbacks coach, Spencer Leftwich as offensive line coach and Tony Dews as tight ends coach.

Dodge was the head coach at North Texas from 2007 until he was fired this season. Before that, he was one of the most successful Texas high school coaches of all time, leading Southlake Carroll High to four Texas 5A state titles and going 79-1 in his final five seasons. His quarterback protégées include former Missouri star Chase Daniel and Alabama's Greg McElroy.

Leftwich has coached offensive lines for 20 years and worked in that position at Tulsa under Graham. He was also at North Texas from 2007-09.

Dews comes over from Michigan, where he served as Rich Rodriguez's wide receivers coach. Dews also coached receivers at West Virginia in 2007, and is the fourth member of the staff -- including Graham -- who had served as a Mountaineers assistant under Graham.

In addition, Graham has installed Shawn Griswold as Pitt's strength and conditioning coach. Griswold served that role at Tulsa from 2004-10. He'll replace the popular longtime Pitt strength coach Buddy Morris, but it's little surprise that Graham would want his own man in that job.

Assistants Paul Randolph (executive associate head coach/co-defensive coordinator/defensive line), Calvin Magee (assistant head coach/co-offensive coordinator/running backs), Mike Norvell (co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers/director of recruiting), Tony Gibson (cornerbacks/recruiting coordinator) and Keith Patterson (defensive coordinator/linebackers) were announced when Graham was introduced as Pitt's coach last week.
