End of third: Irish 42, Navy 7
By Matt Fortuna
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Navy's defense forced a three-and-out to start the second half. Notre Dame responded on its next offensive possession by going 86 yards on nine plays in 4 minutes, 23 seconds, with Michael Floyd taking a pass behind the line of scrimmage 10 yards for a touchdown.
The Irish enter the final period with a commanding 35-point lead and will likely get their second-teamers and younger players plenty of action in the last 15 minutes. I'm a little surprised we haven't seen Andrew Hendrix yet, though, to be fair, Notre Dame had the ball for just two full possessions in the third quarter.
George Atkinson III, who had one carry for no gain and whom Brian Kelly said would see time in the backfield this weekend, will likely get more carries as well.
Regardless, the Irish have to be pleased with the aftermath of these past 48 hours and, really, two weeks. This is the team fans recognize from three weeks ago.
