3Q: Stanford 31, OSU 13
By Kevin Gemmell
CORVALLIS, Ore. -- This game has taken a turn for the surreal. Penalties. Injured officials. "Invalid" signals on special teams. Weird game.
Heading into the fourth quarter, Stanford looks to be pulling away as Andrew Luck connected with running back Stepfan Taylor on a 27-yard touchdown strike and then again with Coby Fleener on a 17-yard touchdown with 35 seconds left in the third quarter.
The Cardinal passing attack had been mostly tempered by weather and the loss of wide receiver Chris Owusu and tight end Levine Toilolo. Prior to the two touchdown passes, Stanford had just 127 yards in the air.
Stanford's pass rush has also picked up in the second half -- sacking OSU quarterback Sean Mannion on back-to-back plays, the second resulting in a fumble. That led to the Fleener touchdown. Trent Murphy logged the first sack, then Chase Thomas tallied the second, forcing the fumble which Matt Masifilo recovered.
The Cardinal are now 13-for-13 on the year converting turnovers into points.
