Boise State makes a statement
Posted by ESPN.com’s Graham Watson
BOISE, Idaho -- After Oregon’s touchdown in the third quarter, there was some grumbling that this could be a repeat of last year’s game between these two teams when Oregon made a fourth-quarter push to make the game closer than it really was.
Instead, the game turned into a comedy of errors in the final quarter, complete with five turnovers, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Broncos from making the first major statement of the 2009 season.
While coach Chris Petersen won’t be pleased with the turnovers, he has to be happy to get this game out of the way. Regardless of what any of the Boise State players or coaches said, this game was the Broncos' season.
More importantly, Boise State won this game the way it needed to be won. It dominated from the opening snap and made Oregon look incredibly average. Boise State started a little shaky, but came around and made a huge national statement.
It's only the first weekend of the season, but the Broncos just took the lead in the race for a BCS bowl berth.
