Boise State on course for Big East
By Andrea Adelson
Boise State officially withdrew from the Mountain West before a Saturday deadline and remains on course to join the Big East as a football-only member.
The school said in a statement Sunday that it was working to find a home for its other sports in the Big West, which will hold a meeting of its presidents before the upcoming academic year to make a membership decision.
"There is no doubt that conference affiliation is a difficult and complex issue, but I am very pleased where we stand today and excited for the future prospects of all of our Bronco sports," Boise State president Bob Kustra said in a statement.
San Diego State also joins the Big East as a football-only member in 2013, though the school issued its formal withdrawal from the Mountain West well before Boise State did. Each school stands to lose about $2.5 million in forfeited revenue with their departure to the Big East.
