Chryst suspends Hollins; Myers leaves
By Andrea Adelson
Pitt coach Paul Chryst announced Friday that tackle Juantez Hollins has been suspended for the season for a violation of team rules, while backup quarterback Mark Myers is no longer with the team.
Also, Chryst has suspended incoming freshman receiver Chris Davis for the first week of practice for disciplinary reasons. Davis will be eligible to return to practice Aug. 12.
Hollins played in 13 games last year, and made seven starts. Losing him will no doubt hurt the depth along the line, the weakest part of the team last season.
“Even though he will not play in any games, Juantez will remain an active and valuable member of our program and be accountable every day in practice and in the classroom,” Chryst said in a statement.
Myers played in four games last year, completing 1-of-4 passes for five yards. Without Myers, the Panthers are severely limited with depth at quarterback. Behind Tino Sunseri, Pitt has true freshman Chad Voytik and sophomore Trey Anderson, who came to the Panthers as a spread quarterback. Myers was one of the top quarterback prospects in the state of Ohio in the class of 2010, but for whatever reason, things did not work out for him with the Panthers.
Pitt opens practice Monday.
