Pac-12 bowl projections: Week 9
By Kevin Gemmell
Another Pac-12 team has become bowl-eligible. With their win over Utah, the Oregon State Beavers are 6-0 for just the second time in school history.
As for the projections, the top three stay the same. The rest is in flux yet again.
For now, Stanford’s defense gives it a slight edge over UCLA and ASU, the other two two-loss teams. One of those two teams will become bowl-eligible next week when the Sun Devils host UCLA in a critical Pac-12 South showdown. It’s a big stretch coming up for ASU, which travels to Oregon State and USC after next week. Same for UCLA, which faces the Arizona schools in back-to-back weeks and then takes a trip to Pullman, Wash., before closing out the season at home with USC and Stanford.
Arizona took a big step forward with its blowout win at home over Washington. It needs two wins with USC, UCLA, Colorado, Utah and ASU remaining on the schedule. Washington has to pick up three wins with Oregon State, Cal, Utah, Colorado and Washington State left on its schedule.
Cal’s chances took a hit with the loss to Stanford, and it'll have to win three of four with Utah, Washington, Oregon and Oregon State left.
Utah doesn’t have any currently ranked teams left on the schedule, but it'll have to go on a run and win four of its last five if it wants to make it 10 consecutive years of going bowling.
