Instant analysis: Ga. Tech 33, Maryland 13

By Heather Dinich

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland true freshman linebacker Shawn Petty made his debut as the Terps' starting quarterback, and while he did an admirable job considering the circumstances, it wasn't enough to keep pace with the Jackets. Here's a look back at Georgia Tech's 33-13 win:

It was over when: Maryland's fourth quarterback of the season suffered a season-ending injury in Week 9. When true freshman Caleb Rowe went down in last week's loss to Boston College, the Terps ran out of scholarship quarterbacks and had to turn to Petty, who just two weeks ago was a scout team linebacker. He was sacked on the first play of the game, and the rest is history.

Game ball goes to: Georgia Tech linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu. He finished second on the team with six tackles, including three sacks for a loss of 24 yards. He also had one forced fumble and a fumble recovery -- his first of the season. His first tackle for loss of the season came on the Terps' first offensive play of the game.

Stat of the game: With Petty in at quarterback, Maryland threw for more yards (115) against Georgia Tech this year than it did in last year's loss to the Jackets (87). Petty completed 9 of 18 passes for 115 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Last year, with C.J. Brown and Danny O'Brien, the Terps completed 6 of 24 passes for 87 yards.
