ACC race update: Week 13
By Heather Dinich
Miami's announcement on Monday that it has decided to self-impose a bowl ban for a second straight season changed everything.
It gave us answers.
Florida State will face Georgia Tech in the Dec. 1 Dr Pepper ACC championship game -- regardless of what happens this weekend. The 2012 ACC race is officially over because two of the Coastal Division's best teams -- UNC and Miami -- are ineligible. The championship game will be nationally televised with an 8 p.m. ET kickoff on either ABC or ESPN.
Florida State holds a 12-9-1 advantage in the series with Georgia Tech, which began in 1952, and had won 12 straight against the Jackets after joining the ACC in 1992. Georgia Tech, though, has won the last two meetings.
The Seminoles finished tied for the division crown with Clemson, but advance to Charlotte because of their 49-37 win over the Tigers on Sept. 22. Georgia Tech finished its conference season at 5-3 with a 42-24 win over Duke last weekend. Miami could also finish 5-3 in the Coastal with a win over Duke on Saturday, and UNC can also finish 5-3 with a win over Maryland.
The Jackets are in.
