Charlie Strong announces he is staying
By Andrea Adelson
Louisville coach Charlie Strong said Thursday morning he is staying with Louisville, turning down an offer to jump to the SEC and coach Tennessee.
Strong said in an emotional speech, "When I thought about leaving I kept going back to -- we haven't finished the job yet. We have a lot of work to do. I knew this would be a big opportunity, to people it was a no-brainer, but when I think about all the people I came across in Louisville the past three years, they're all a part of our family.
"It became crystal clear to me that I had to stay at the University of Louisville."
Strong thanked Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich for believing in him and giving him his first opportunity to become a head coach. He also mentioned how much he and his family love the Louisville community, and how he did not want to let down his players who placed so much trust and faith in him.
Strong has not signed a contract extension yet, but that should be the next step in the process.
Louisville can now breathe a sigh of relief that this is all over. Stay tuned to the blog for more later today.
