Star 2013 WR commits to Indiana
By Brian Bennett
One of the best receiving corps in the Big Ten could be getting stronger in 2013.
Taj Williams, ranked by ESPN.com as the nation's No. 32 receiver and No. 224 overall prospect in the Class of 2013, tweeted on Monday night that he has committed to Indiana. One of the top remaining unsigned players in this year's class, the Tallahassee, Fla., product had been recruited by Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame and several others. He appeared to be leaning toward Auburn on signing day.
Williams is listed at 6-foot-4 and just 170 pounds, so he could use some time at the training table. But here's what ESPN.com's Recruiting Nation had to say about him in its scouting report:
"This is a long, lanky player with flashes of exceptional playmaking ability. Williams has the potential to develop into an elite size/speed receiver. He already has great height and length and is wiry and lean. He's a long strider with good speed but needs to add strength and fill out his frame. He shows impressive vertical burst off the ball that eats up the cushion in a hurry for a player of with his size. ... He's an outside receiver with the ability to stretch the defense. Williams passes the initial eye test with flying colors and looks to have plenty of room to grow. Also an accomplished basketball player and track athlete, he has some of the acrobatic qualities of Tennessee WR Justin Hunter."
Williams hasn't signed yet, so the Hoosiers can't comment on him. But it's another impressive coup for Kevin Wilson and his staff, who corralled a strong class this year, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Now they've got another weapon on offense to go along with three highly productive returning receivers in Kofi Hughes, Shane Wynn and Cody Latimer.
Maybe Bloomington is now the place to find Big Ten star receivers.
