No. 8 Clemson and No. 11 Florida State are the ACC's only ranked teams in the preseason Associated Press Top 25, which was released this morning. That follows the trend of what we've seen and heard all offseason; Clemson is the ACC's best hope at a national title contender this fall, but there is nationwide confidence in the Seminoles' ability to reload after losing 11 players to the NFL draft.
What's interesting about this poll is the rest of the top 10 -- almost all opponents the ACC will face, including No. 1-ranked Alabama, No. 3 Oregon, No. 5 Georgia and No. 6 South Carolina. Talk about daunting, but it's also a great chance for the ACC to make a national statement, starting in Week 1.
Virginia Tech (86), Miami (85), Georgia Tech (6) and North Carolina (3) each received votes, further evidence of the balance expected in the Coastal Division this fall -- and the lack of it in the Atlantic Division.
