Sorry, this slipped through the cracks with everything else going on this week.
UNLV has hired former Utah State coach Brent Guy as its new linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator.
Guy, who spent last season as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Louisville, replaces Ty Gregorak, who resigned after an incident at a nightclub in Boulder, Colo.
Guy spent four years as the head coach at Utah State before being fired after the 2008 season. Guy spent one year at Louisville, but was not retained after head coach Steve Kragthorpe was replaced by former Florida assistant Charlie Strong. In his one season with the Cardinals, the defense ranked 65th nationally in total and scoring defense.
UNLV ranked 115th in total defense and 103rd in scoring defense.
“Brent Guy brings a tremendous amount of experience on the defensive side of the ball, particularly at the linebacker position,” UNLV head coach Bobby Hauck said. “He is also a natural fit to recruit the Dallas area. We are excited for Brent to join us and expect him to make a smooth transition to our staff even though we are late in the football calendar."
Guy’s résumé also includes stints as a defensive coordinator at Arizona State (2001-04) and Boise State (1998-2000), and he served as a linebackers coach at Oklahoma State (1989-91, 95-97) and Utah State (1992-94).
