Latest offer intriguing for WR Cannon
By Damon Sayles
What many know about K.D. Cannon (Mount Pleasant, Texas/Mount Pleasant) are his stats on the field -- 104 receptions, 1,597 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns.
What many don’t know about the ESPN Watch List wide receiver are his stats away from the field -- a 3.0 grade-point average and a favorite subject of history.
Making the honor roll is just as important to Cannon as scoring a game-winning touchdown. So when the 6-foot, 170-pound receiver picked up a Vanderbilt offer on Wednesday, he was just as excited to get it as he was when he picked up his very first offers.
“I really want to go to a school with good academics,” Cannon said. “I’ve been pretty good with my grades. My freshman year wasn’t that good, but now, I’m getting back on track.”
Vanderbilt is Cannon’s third SEC offer, joining Texas A&M and Ole Miss. Cannon also has offers from Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Nebraska and a host of other programs.
“They have great academics,” Cannon said of Vanderbilt, “and their football program is on the rise.”
Cannon said he plans on attending the Baylor spring game on Saturday. On Sunday, he will be in Allen, Texas, for the Nike Football Training Camp.
