Cards, Huskers hosting S nearing decision

By Jared Shanker

Mike Edwards has been pegged as a future Kentucky commitment for several months. If another program is going to surpass the Wildcats for the Cincinnati Winton Woods product before his summer decision, it will have to begin in the next few weeks.

The 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back will visit Nebraska the weekend of June 15 for the Cornhuskers’ Big Red Weekend.

“I’d say just meeting the coaching staff and see how I fit in down there and fit in with the players, different stuff like that,” Edwards said about what he is looking forward to most on his visit to Lincoln.

Following his trip to Nebraska, Edwards will be back in Kentucky the weekend after he visits Lincoln. Edwards will not be heading to Lexington, though. He will make a visit to Louisville.

“I’m going to be with my mom and my dad, so we’re gonna see how that all is and see the campus and see how the coaching staff and the players are and see how things go,” he said.

Edwards is considering another visit to West Virginia, too, and he first visited the Mountaineers during the season for their game against Marshall.

Vanderbilt and Wisconsin are the remaining teams in Edwards’ final six, and he does not have plans to visit either before he makes a decision in July. He will likely cut his list once more before he makes a commitment.

Edwards said the race between his top six is “all even really,” although he is considered a heavy Kentucky lean. The Wildcats have 10 commitments, and six reside in Ohio.
