Early Offer: Florida gets Sharpe

By Jeremy Crabtree

The Early Offer is RecruitingNation's regular feature, giving you a daily dose of recruiting in the mornings. Today's offerings: After a few days off, the Early Offer is back with news on Florida adding one of the best offensive linemen in the country; a road trip that takes fans inside the world of coaches on the road; and an avalanche of commitments from junior college prospects is coming in the next week.

Gators get their guy

It took a little bit longer than anticipated, but Florida landed highly coveted offensive lineman David Sharpe (Jacksonville, Fla./Providence) on Thursday. Sharpe, the No. 18 player in the country and second-ranked offensive tackle, pushed back a scheduled decision before Thanksgiving to Thursday, but in the end it was worth the wait for Florida fans.

Sharpe said he wasn’t worried that the Gators do not have an offensive coordinator or an offensive line coach at the moment, mainly because he believes in the program. “Coach Muschamp really needed help, and I really want to help turn the program around,” Sharpe told ESPN’s Derek Tyson. “I think we have a special class coming in."

The life of a recruiter

I was on the road most of the week touring schools and making prospect visits in South Florida with coaches Oscar Rodriguez and Jeff Kelly from Garden City (Kan.) Community College. I took my Twitter followers along for the ride, and in case you missed it, you can see for yourself what life is like as a college football coach by checking out the hashtag #JCRoadTrip.

Juco dominoes starting to fall

Next Wednesday is the opening of the midterm junior college signing period, and players who graduate at the end of the fall semester are starting to make their decisions. One of those players is ESPN Junior College 50 defensive tackle Claudeson Pelon (Orlando, Fla./Mesa Community College). The 6-foot-5, 280-pound Pelon picked USC over offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Florida State, Miami, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Pelon is just one example of what will be a flurry of commitments in the next week.
