Aggies get ESPN Junior 300 safety

By Damon Sayles and Sam Khan Jr.

ESPN Junior 300 safety Larry Pryor Jr. (Sulphur Springs, Texas/Sulphur Springs) has had a favorite for quite some time. All he needed was the offer.

When Pryor picked up an offer from Texas A&M last weekend, it wasn’t a matter of if he would commit to the Aggies, but when would it happen.

Thursday evening, the No. 91 player in the ESPN Junior 300 made it official, verbally committing to Kevin Sumlin and the Aggies to become the program’s seventh commit of the 2015 class. Pryor chose Texas A&M over offers from Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Arkansas and several other programs.

Pryor made the trip to College Station, Texas, last Saturday for Texas A&M’s junior day on Sunday hoping to get the offer from Sumlin. Before he left, he was offered, and after talking things over with his family, he decided to pull the trigger.

“I chose [A&M] because I feel like it was the best fit for me,” Pryor said. “I have been there plenty of times, and I like how I feel when I’m there.”

Listed at 5-foot-11 and 192 pounds, Pryor was recruited to Texas A&M by offensive line coach B.J. Anderson. Ranked as the sixth-best safety nationally in the 2015 class, Pryor possesses a wide range of skills. According to ESPN Scouts, Pryor “shows good instincts and awareness moving through traffic to locate the ball on alley support,” in addition to having “excellent size, speed and playing strength” for his position.

The addition of Pryor shows that the Aggies are continuing to recruit at a high level. With a 2014 class ranked second heading into national signing day, the 2015 class is off to an excellent start, all seven commits are ESPN Junior 300 prospects. Pryor is the third 2015 defensive player to commit to Texas A&M in the 2015 class, and is a commit at a position where the Aggies need depth.

“A&M is building a great program,” Pryor said. “It’s only going to get better in my opinion, and I want to be a part of it.”

Pryor and Justin Dunning (Whitehouse, Texas/Whitehouse) are Texas A&M’s safety commits for the 2015 class. Pryor, defensive tackle commit Daylon Mack (Gladewater, Texas/Gladewater) and running back Rodney Anderson (Katy, Texas/Katy) all are top-100 ESPN Junior 300 players committed to the Aggies.
