Each week this spring, GigEmNation reporter Sam Khan Jr. will bring you notes/nuggets from watching and visiting with high school football prospects in the Greater Houston area that week. He will include observations of Texas A&M commitments and targets and other players who catch his attention. Here's this week's installment:

MANVEL, Texas -- For some, camps are a chance for players to show college coaches that they're worthy of an offer. For those who have more offers than they can fathom, it's a chance to watch, interact and visit with the coaches to get a feel for the program's staff.

HOUSTON — Trey Roberts hasn't had too many opportunities to play cornerback, his future position at Oklahoma State.

That's because the 2014 athlete from Houston Eisenhower plays quarterback for the Eagles. But on Saturday, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect, who committed to the Cowboys on Wednesday, got a chance to perform defensive back drills with his future position coach, cornerbacks coach Van Malone, during the Mary Hardin-Baylor/Oklahoma State satellite camp at Cypress Ridge High School.

UTSA had a strong Sunday, pulling three commitments. On Monday, it continued to pick up athletes, landing a three-star athlete once committed to Texas Tech.

Cornerback Aneas Henricks (Bastrop, Texas/Bastrop) became the 19th member of the Roadrunners’ 2013 recruiting class, as he verbally committed late Monday morning. The 6-foot, 172-pound cornerback, who recently parted ways with the Red Raiders, was recruited by receivers coach Tony Jeffery.

“Everything on the campus was beautiful,” Henricks said. “I liked everything they showed me, and I can see myself staying there the next four years.”

UTSA has picked up a verbal commitment from junior college offensive tackle Braden Lyons (Sonoma, Calif./City College of San Francisco), multiple sources report.

Florida Atlantic and Old Dominion also offered the 6-foot-5, 290-pounder.

City College of San Francisco coach George Rush believes Lyons has the potential to start early, according to mysanantonio.com:

WACO, Texas -- Now that his junior season is over, Josh Malin (Cibolo, Texas/Steele) is ready for the start of what could be a hectic recruiting process.

The 6-foot-6, 240-pound defensive end and his fellow Steele Knights lost in the Class 5A-2 state semifinals to Katy on Saturday.

Malin was plenty involved in the 45-33 loss -- Katy ran the ball 56 times for 317 yards, often right up the middle -- and said the game was one he’ll rewatch over and over this offseason.

Juco spotlight: Blinn College

BRENHAM, Texas -- In the heart of what forms practically a triangle of major metropolitan cities in Texas is the town of Brenham.

In the Lone Star State, the town is often associated with two things: ice cream, because it's the home of Blue Bell Creameries, makers of ice cream that any Texan will swear by, and baseball, because of Brenham High School's seven state championships.

Andrew Weber/US PresswireCarolina Panthers QB Cam Newton won a junior college national championship with Blinn in 2009.
Football coaches around the country know the town for another reason: the fact that it's home to one of the more historically successful junior college programs, the Blinn College Buccaneers.

Baylor, Oklahoma and Texas A&M also expressed interest in the 6-foot-3, 235-pound prospect, who is ranked 10th nationally at his position, according to ESPN.

Gaines, running back Everett Dickerson (Atlanta, Texas) and offensive guard Daniel McCarty (San Antonio/Alama Heights) are all high three-star, top-50 positional prospects on board with the Mustangs.

Joseph Glenn didn't have a timetable or a clear vision for when he would make his college commitment or to which school his pledge would go to.

But when he stepped foot on the Houston campus for an unofficial visit on Sunday, all that changed for the 2013 running back out of Giddings, Texas.

Glenn became the 12th verbal commitment of the Cougars' 2013 class when he gave his pledge to the Houston coaching staff while visiting the campus Sunday.

Oklahoma State has built a nice reputation for producing wide receivers possessing speed, strength and confidence. Players such as Dez Bryant and Justin Blackmon played the position with the attitude that no other player is better on the field.

The Cowboys picked up another player of that caliber in Deric Robertson (Killeen, Texas/Killeen) on Sunday. The difference is that Robertson will line up on the other side of the ball. Robertson is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound defensive back who is big enough to play outside linebacker and fast enough to play cornerback.

Recruited to play safety, Robertson is expected to bring versatility, quickness and power to the Cowboys’ secondary. He showed his resourcefulness by recording 92 tackles, six pass breakups and an interception last season. He also forced three fumbles and was named a first-team all-district selection.
