Offensive line prospect Jason Stewart (New Orleans/Warren Easton) has become the first Class of 2013 commitment for Tulane, the Times-Picayune reports. He is expected to play guard for the Green Wave.
TCU, Southern Miss, Louisiana-Lafayette and North Texas also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-5, 320-pounder. He attended junior days at Alabama, Southern Miss and Louisiana-Lafayette.
“Ever since my first visit, I’ve been thinking about (committing),’’ Stewart said. “The reason I chose Tulane was not only for football, but also for their academic program. I like the academic program. I also chose them because it’s close to home and I feel comfortable with Coach Johnson, Coach Rollins and the whole coaching staff. The coaches and the players, they have like a family thing going on.’’
Stewart enters his senior campaign as a three-year start whose earned all-district recognition each of the past two seasons. He reportedly runs a 5.13 40-yard dash.
