New UNC coach Larry Fedora has landed the quarterback of the future to run his prolific spread offense. Mitch Trubisky (Mentor, Ohio), who is still falling under the national radar some in our eyes, has the size, athleticism and arm strength to succeed in the Tar Heels new passing scheme.
The Ohio native is not totally polished mechanically and has a lower release but is very dangerous out of the shotgun with his ability to move around the pocket, buy time and create his own throwing lanes -- or tuck it and run. He throws well on the move and has good overall accuracy but his ability to improvise and make plays as a runner with his speed and elusiveness, should make Fedora’s offense even more dynamic in the future.
The other positive with this pickup is that Trubisky should not have to be called upon to play immediately giving him time to develop as a passer. The Tar Heels have a lot depth at the position but it is not out of the realm that this top-10 rated dual-threat quarterback is inserted into early packages.
