Boise State landed a verbal this weekend from an offensive lineman who we felt was flying a bit under the radar. Andrew Tercek (San Antonio, Texas/East Central) is a nice a pick-up in ability and fit.
He is a high school tackle who is a bit undersized, and we feel he will fit best as a guard at the next level, though it is possible that he could stay at OT in Boise, as the Broncos have played with tackles before in that 6-foot-3 range.
However they chose to use him, they are getting a punishing lineman who plays with some nastiness. A tough run-blocker who demonstrates the ability to come out of his stance low and hard and roll his hips on contact and with persistent leg drive, he can push defenders off the ball. He also displays good enough athleticism to play on his feet in space. He needs some refinement in pass protection, but he demonstrates that he can bend, slide and handle double-read assignments without crossing his feet.
Boise State lost a couple of key players from its O-Line and several more are slated to be seniors this season, so O-Line remains a need. The Broncos signed a couple of OL’s in their 2012 class, and now Tercek is the second one on board in this class. He has the tools to be among, if not the best in this most recent O-Line crop headed to Boise.
