High three-star Augustus Edwards (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) , a bruising 6-foot-2, 220-pound running back, committed to sign with Syracuse, the New York Post reports.
“The biggest thing was trust from the coaches, playing early and how I get along with the team, how I fit in with the team,” Edwards said. “I want(ed) to get it out of the way. I want to focus on my season.”
Boston College, UConn, Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Rutgers, Temple, Central Florida, Vanderbilt and Virginia also offered Edwards, who rushed for 995 yards and 10 touchdowns on 146 carries last fall.
He displayed impressive athleticism on the Nike Combine circuit this spring, posting an electronically-timed 4.58 40-yard dash, 4.52 20-yard shuttle, 31.6-inch vertical and 90.12 SPARQ.
Edwards is the highest-rated 2013 pledge for the Orange, who have eight players on board.
