The strength of North Carolina’s top 25 class at this stage is on the offensive side of the ball with prospects like ESPN 300 quarterback Mitch Trubisky (Mentor, Ohio), but Friday the Tar Heels added a promising defensive line prospect to mix with a verbal Nazair Jones (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.). The in-state defender is someone you don’t seem to hear a lot about, but we feel he is a very good prospect who with some development and consistency can be a fine player at the college level.
He has good size potential and while listed as a defensive end he is a kid that could potentially develop into a D-Tackle or at least offer nice potential as a swing player on the D-Line. He is an explosive kid and when he executes with good technique he can be a tough run defender and with his athleticism and ability to get-off of the ball he can a disruptive pass rusher. He needs to continue to develop and learn to be more consistent as a player with things like hand usage and pad level, but he flashes very nice upside.
